Amy Winehouse inspired Gaultier Couture line.

The most anticipated fashion week of the year ended on wednesday - Paris’ Haute Couture Fashion Week 2012.  Nothing beats Couture, the skill and crafting which can be identified in each garment is priceless. Jean Paul Gaultier's Couture line is a prime example of this which paid homage to the late iconic singer Amy Winehouse. The Winehouse inspired line caused a great stir amongst industry critics who said 'the styling was disrespectful to the Winehouse family'

The models were styled in the traditional Amy Winehouse way with beehive hairdos and thick dark eye make up, and the background music was a remixed edition of Amy's famous Back to Black album.  Some of the models even strutted down the runway smoking a cigarette- which I do agree may have been one step too far. However on social networking websites such as twitter and facebook, fans are constantlyphotographing themselves in the traditional Winehouse style & even on the high street girls can be seen in the signature Winehouse style. - sporty belly tops, scarves tied frumply in their hair, pencil skirts & cropped skinny jeans.

Why not pay tribute to such an iconic person in the world of music ? But the question I keep asking myself is, was it done out of compassion and a whole hearted tribute to Amy Winehouse ? Or was it a publicity stunt to create a stir in the fashion industry. I completely understand why the Winehouse family slammed the line, as it was recently the 6 month anniversary of Amy's death and this may have been a bit too close to home for them especially as they were not consulted before the launch of the line.

However the refernce to Amy's unique mix of styling from floaty silhouettes, tight bustiers and sportswear was amazing and gave off a feeling of sexiness with a masculine edge. I love it !!
